How did Take Awareness Day begin?
Great question, thanks for asking. During the pandemic, a group of university friends were playing Super Smash Brothers (N64 version) over the internet to stay sane. They called it "Smash Therapy," As they all had kids and the majority of them had jobs. They would all hop on a WhatsApp video call and drink alcohol during these long gaming sessions. This would lead to them naming the various Pokemon that would appear based on the noises they made. (This group is in their 40s and didn't know or care to look up the actual names of the Pokemon at the time.) When Hitmonlee appeared, he made a sound like "Take Take Take" when he would launch a kick.
This lead to his name being "Take Take Take," and when the kick landed, you were "Taken." This lead to other internal memes. When Hitmonlee would "take" someone, that person must have ordered "take out." Also, because you can jump to avoid the taking, it was meme'd that you must always be *aware* of an imminent "taking." After one night of heavy drinking, and an unusually high amount of "takings" during the game, one market participant proposed a "Take Awareness Day" to make everyone more aware. It became a metaphor for life. Everyone can be more aware on a daily basis, and spreading awareness became our shared goal.
Why January 29th?
One market participant's wife has a birthday on January 30th, so it couldn't be then. Black history month is all of February, so it couldn't be during that either. January 29th was the natural choice.
Wait, so you can just make up a holiday?
Your government does it, religion does it, so why can't we?
So How Can I Be More Aware?
Great question, thanks for asking. We can all be more aware, of everything, all the time. Awareness is on a spectrum. You can be more aware of the weather, and you can be more aware of the existential dread that is your repetitive life. Material changes, of any sort, all start with awareness.
Why did you mint a Solana token about this?
